Independent Artists Withdrawing from Apple, Taking a Stance on Issues of Royalties

"Given the brewing dissatisfaction over egregious Apple terms, it was estimated that more than 50 percent of indie artists will be absent during Apple’s critical launch period this summer." multiple sources told Digital Music News this week.

With Apple about to jump on the music streaming train this fall with Apple Music, more and more independent artists are abandoning ship before Apple's product launches. Among those to take a stance include Radiohead, Beggar's artist Adele, and additional independent acts such as The National.

Apple continues to urge artists to sign their agreement before the product launches, but independent artists are hesitant to; meanwhile, major label artists such as Rihanna and Lady Gaga, have been confirmed artists promoting the benefits to sign on with Apple Music.

As we head towards the September (or October) launch date, we'll wait and see how the independent music scene takes to the anticipated stipulations and royalty headache with Apple Music.
